A brand new Star Wars attraction opened Friday 20th May 2011 at Hollywood Studios in Disney World, Florida.

The new ride, Star Tours 3D, replaces the old Star Tours ride that closed in September 2010.

Star Tours 3D boasts cutting edge cinematic three dimensional special effects and motion simulator-based technology, along with 52 different ride scenarios and storylines that are run at random, meaning you get a different experience each time you ride!

“Whether it’s a battle with Darth Vader and his legion of stormtroopers or a plea from Princess Leia to help her save the Rebellion, guests will find themselves in the middle of the action – literally – in the 3-D, multi-sensory attraction” said a Disney World spokesperson.

“Utilizing the 50+ random story combinations, guests will board a Starspeeder which embarks on a wild trip through the galaxy, visiting several planets made famous in the Star Wars films. Among the locations that might provide haven from the Empire’s pursuit are the icy planet of Hoth, the lush jungles of Kashyyyk and the underwater Gungan world of Naboo. Along the way guests may encounter Star Wars characters that offer to help (or hinder) their journey, including Yoda, Admiral Ackbar, Darth Vader and Boba Fett. Skytroopers, a legion of stormtroopers created especially for the Star Tours attraction story, might even join in the chase.”

The grand opening ceremony of Star Tours 3D took place on Friday afternoon which involved a Star Wars parade through the park and a live interactive stage show that saw the rebel alliance take over the Star Tours 3D ride to try and prevent it from opening.

Many names and faces made famous through the Star Wars films took to the stage, including the creator of Star Wars, George Lucas himself.

  1. My son would absolutely love this. We are trying to save for our dream holiday to Florida to see all the sights, it’s so hard though when you just don’t have much cash. We’re collecting airmiles too, do you think you’ll build a section on how do do Florida on a budget any time soon?

  2. Eric K says:
